Cori Bush Loses Primary Race to Wesley Bell
Former Ferguson protest leader and first-term Congresswoman Cori Bush has lost the Democratic primary for Missouri's 1st Congressional District to Wesley Bell, a former state representative and current St. Louis County councilman.
Bush, who was elected to Congress in 2020, was seen as one of the most outspoken progressives in the House. She has been a vocal advocate for the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and police reform.
Bell, who is seen as a more moderate Democrat, has pledged to focus on economic issues and public safety in the district.
The primary race was one of the most closely watched House races of 2024, with Bell ultimately defeating Bush by a margin of 55% to 45%. Bush has conceded the race and has pledged to support Bell in the general election.
